Ecosystem Sciences

Biogeochemistry and micrometeorology

We are an ecological engineering group based out of the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry, within the Department of Environmental Resources Engineering. We research ecosystem sciences using state-of-the art measurement techniques and innovative new modeling approaches.

Ecosystem carbon cycling plays an important role in our understanding of how the natural world will respond to a changing climate and grants insights about climate tipping points in the world around us. Dr. Morin’s lab studies ecosystem scale carbon cycling and flux behavior across a variety of systems.

Although our group focuses on carbon, we are interested in a wide variety of nutrient fluxes and biogeochemical cycles including organismal nitrogen, sulfur, and phosphorus cycling. We seek to address major uncertainties in how these compounds are transformed and transported through nature, particularly in oxygen limited systems.
